As part of its ongoing international cooperation efforts, the AAOIFI Centre for Islamic Finance Development is exploring opportunities for engagement with stakeholders in Azerbaijan in the areas of capacity building, professional development and competence enhancement in partnership finance.
Preliminary discussions have covered areas related to AAOIFI standards, educational programmes, professional qualifications, and awareness-raising initiatives on Islamic finance.
Azerbaijan has demonstrated growing interest in the development of partnership finance and the establishment of an enabling environment for the sector’s further growth. In this context, the AAOIFI Centre highly appreciates the efforts of market participants, financial institutions and government bodies in fostering professional dialogue and examining international experience.
Particular attention is being given to initiatives by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan aimed at enhancing regulatory awareness, developing the market, and exploring mechanisms that support the responsible development of ethical financial instruments.
Amier Al-Mousa, Director of the AAOIFI Centre, commented:
“Azerbaijan is a promising market with significant economic potential, a developed financial sector, and growing interest in Islamic finance. We are pleased to explore opportunities that could contribute to the development of specialised training, awareness-raising and technical competence in the country. Our approach is grounded in international standards, practical applicability, and support for the understanding of AAOIFI standards in the local context.”
Potential areas of cooperation may include educational programmes, professional qualifications, engagement with financial institutions, and expert discussions on the application of AAOIFI standards.
Dr. Ruslan Atakishiyev, Chairman of the Public Union for the Study of Economic Resources and Doctor of Economic Sciences, stated that cooperation with AAOIFI would make a significant contribution to the development of the Islamic finance sector in Azerbaijan.
Further information on possible initiatives will be provided upon completion of the necessary consultations and approvals.
