Digital Banking and Retail Fintech Products (in line with AAOIFI Standards)

Overview

Programme Overview

Programme Context
This workshop is part of the Market-Development Suite — programmes supporting advanced institutional and ecosystem needs. It bridges classical Shari’ah principles with the realities of digital banking, fintech, and the crypto economy.

Why This Programme Matters
The rapid growth of digital financial services creates both opportunities and compliance risks for Islamic financial institutions. This workshop develops the analytical tools and Shari’ah grounding needed to evaluate digital products — from crowdfunding and crypto to open banking — within an AAOIFI-aligned framework.

Programme Approach
Delivered over two days using a hybrid format combining presentations, live case studies, Q&A, and concept checkers.

Day 1: Foundations and Shari’ah Analysis

  • Fundamentals of blockchain technology
  • Overview of crypto assets and digital tokens
  • Key Shari’ah issues in crypto assets and proposed approaches
  • Islamic decentralised finance (DeFi) models and use cases

Day 2: Applications, Transformation, and Strategy

  • Emerging trends in the digital financial ecosystem
  • Islamic digital banking models and platforms
  • Transition from traditional banking to open banking
  • Future outlook, strategic implications, and the way forward

Progression Pathway
An intermediate-level programme. Participants are expected to have basic familiarity with Islamic finance. This workshop may be combined with governance and structuring programmes for a comprehensive digital-transformation curriculum.
